APHC-AJK expresses concern over Kashmiri political detainees’ plight in jails

Islamabad : All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has expressed concern over the plight of thousands of Kashmiri political prisoners lodged in Indian jails and the inhuman treatment meted out to them.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC-AJK leaders Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Muhammad Ashraf Dar and Mian Muzaffar in a joint statement in Islamabad said these detainees have been arrested under black laws like the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and have been kept in jails for years.
They said thousands of Kashmiris, including that All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Masarat Alam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Mian Abdul Qayyum, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Dr Hamid Fayyaz, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Fehmida Sufi, Naheeda Nasreen, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Pir Saifullah, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Mushtaq Islam, Bilal Siddiqui, Molvi Bashir Irfani, Noor Muhammad Fayyaz, Hayat Ahmed Butt, Fayyaz Hussain Jafri, Shaukat Hakim, Zafar Akbar Butt, Advocate Zahid Ali, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Rafiq Ahmed Ganai, Omar Adil Dar, Saleem Nanaji, Muhammad Yasin Butt, Farooq Ahmed Tohidi, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopoori, prominent human rights activists Khurram Pervez and journalist Irfan Miraj, are under detention in various Indian jails.
Hurriyat leaders said India is using the so-called anti-terrorism laws and the judicial system as a weapon to suppress the voices supporting a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. They said that Kashmiri detainees are being deprived of their legal rights and are being subjected to serious violations of basic human rights by keeping them in unjustified detention for long periods.
Hurriyat leaders demanded the UN, OIC, international human rights organizations to take immediate steps for the immediate release of Kashmiri political prisoners detained in Indian jails, protection of their basic human and legal rights and stopping the ongoing human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. They said that international intervention is the need of the hour to protect Kashmiri detainees from judicial terrorism.
They said that the Indian government is subjecting Kashmiri political leaders, activists, journalists and human rights activists to the worst political revenge and appealed to the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and international human rights organizations to take immediate notice of the Indian brutalities in the occupied territory.
