Indian regime slammed for aiding drug trade in Punjab ahead of Modi’s visit

Chandigarh: Ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Punjab, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) intensified its criticism of the BJP-led central government, accusing it of facilitating the spread of drugs and failing to protect the border state from narcotics and arms smuggling.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that New Delhi was allowing a jailed gangster lodged in Sabarmati Jail, Gujarat, to operate a drug network in Punjab.
Referring to recent disclosures by the FBI regarding Punjab-based criminal networks, he urged the central government to transfer the gangster to a Punjab jail.
The minister also accused the Modi government of ignoring repeated concerns over cross-border smuggling, claiming that despite having control over the international border, it had failed to stop drones carrying drugs and weapons into Punjab. He further alleged that Modi government was discriminating against the state by not allowing Punjab’s flagship health insurance scheme to be implemented at PGI Chandigarh.
Modi is scheduled to visit Punjab and Chandigarh on July 17 to inaugurate healthcare and railway infrastructure projects.
