IIOJK High Court quashes detention of two youth under draconian PSA

Srinagar:  In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the High Court has quashed the preventive detention of two youth under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) and ordered their immediate release, observing that detentions amounted to a “sheer abuse of the process of law”.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a bench of Justice Rahul Bharti set aside the detention orders against Seerat-ul-Hassan Dhar of Srinagar and Aqib Mushtaq Lone of Shopian.

Quashing the detention order issued against Seerat-ul-Hassan Dhar on October 11, 2024, the court held that the authorities had acted with a “preconceived intention” to keep him behind bars and termed the detention a “sheer abuse of the process of law.” It directed the authorities to restore his personal liberty forthwith and release him from the place of confinement.

In a separate order, the court also quashed the detention order dated May 3, 2025, issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, against Aqib Mushtaq Lone and ordered his immediate release.
