APHC-AJK leader condemns restrictions on Khurram Parvez
Urges UN to protect Kashmiri human rights defenders, resolve Kashmir dispute

APHC-AJK leader Hassan-ul-Bana has strongly condemned the restrictions imposed on prominent Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez following his release from jail, saying the BJP-led Indian government subjected him to politically motivated persecution for exposing human rights violations committed by Indian troops in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to Kashmir Media Service, Khurram Parvez was released on bail from Rohini Jail in New Delhi on Wednesday. He was arrested by India’s notorious National Investigation Agency (NIA) in March 2023 in a fabricated case under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Hassan-ul-Bana, in a statement in Islamabad, said Khurram Parvez had been illegally arrested as part of New Delhi’s campaign to silence Kashmiri voices documenting atrocities and advocating for the rights of the people of IIOJK.
Expressing concern over the stringent bail conditions imposed by the court, including surrendering his passport, residing in Delhi and refraining from making public statements, he said the restrictions amounted to transferring an human rights activist from a small jail to a bigger jail.
He said the BJP government was using fabricated cases, arbitrary detentions and restrictive bail conditions to intimidate Kashmiri activists and prevent them from exposing the continued repression and human rights abuses by Indian troops in the occupied territory.
Hassan-ul-Bana urged the United Nations to press the Indian authorities to withdraw all restrictions imposed on Khurram Parvez and other Kashmiri activists, enabling them to carry out their human rights work without intimidation, harassment or interference. He also called on the UN to play its role in resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with its relevant resolutions.
