Authorities impose restrictions on pretext of Independence Day across Jammu
Jammu : Ahead of India’s Independence Day on August 15, authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have imposed extensive restrictions across Jammu region, with officials reviewing arrangements to ensure a “grand and organised” event.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a high-level meeting was chaired in Jammu on Tuesday by Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and co-chaired by Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti. Deputy Commissioners, SSPs of all districts, JMC Commissioner and senior officers of school education, power, traffic and other departments attended.
The officials reviewed restrictive arrangements, traffic management, parade, cultural programmes, stage setup, lighting, drinking water, medical facilities and sanitation at the main venue, MA Stadium Jammu, and at other district headquarters.
Briefing the meeting, the IGP said “foolproof” arrangements will be put in place at the main venue and surrounding areas. The Divisional Commissioner directed all departments to complete assigned tasks well in time and maintain close coordination.
The restrictions come amid heightened surveillance and crackdowns across IIOJK, where August 15 events are routinely marked by curbs on movement, communication shutdowns and mass deployments of Indian forces. Authorities said all necessary arrangements are being made to ensure the celebrations are held without disruption.
