Employees, pensioners organise mega protest in Chandigarh

Chandigarh:  Punjab government employees and pensioners, participating in a mega protest rally at the Grain Market in Sector 39, Chandigarh, on Friday, over their pending demands, strongly criticised the government.

According to Kashmir Media Service, as the protesters marched from the Grain Market towards the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, police used water cannons three times and resorted to force in an attempt to stop them.

Despite the action, the demonstrators remained firm and continued their protest, raising slogans in support of their demands.

Punjab Mulazam and Pensioner Sanjha Front and the Sanjha Mulazam Munch said that the Punjab Government’s policy and intent towards employees and pensioners were not clear.

They said the government had gone back on the promises made to employees and pensioners, forcing them to organise the mega rally to expose what they described as the government’s failure to honour its commitments.

Protesters said the mega rally was not merely a gathering but a symbol of their collective commitment to protecting their rights, self-respect and the future of coming generations.
