Muslim woman harassed during prayer at UP hospital
New Delhi: A Muslim woman was harassed while offering namaz inside a hospital in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh after a man played the Hindu hymn Hanuman Chalisa on his mobile phone.
According to Kashmir Media Service, videos circulating on social media show the man, identified as Saurabh Pratap, approaching the woman while she was praying on hospital premises and playing a recording of Hanuman Chalisa from YouTube to disturb her prayers.
The incident was recorded and later shared online, drawing widespread criticism. Netizens condemned the act as religious harassment and questioned recording and circulating footage of a person engaged in private worship. Posts on X called for greater sensitivity towards people practising their faith in public spaces.
The hospital’s citizen charter states that silence must be maintained on premises and unnecessary noise that disturbs patients should be avoided.Hapur Police said on social media that the Station House Officer of Pilkhuwa has been directed to conduct an investigation and take necessary action. No official statement from the hospital was available at the time of filing this report.
