Modi regime slammed for power tariff hike in IIOJK
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kashmir (CCIK) has strongly opposed the recent hike in power tariffs, terming it a “deep injustice” to the common people and the business community.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Modi regime has approved an average tariff increase of 6.83 per cent for the Kashmiri people, set to come into effect from September 1, 2026.
In a statement issued in Srinagar, the CCIK said the decision was “tone-deaf” to the ground realities of the territory.
“At a time when unemployment is at its peak, inflation is biting the people hard, and ordinary families are struggling to make ends meet, the regime has chosen to increase power tariffs. This is deeply unfortunate,” the Chamber said.
“From free tariff promises of relief to higher bills—this is a total injustice to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, both for domestic consumers and commercial establishments,” it added.
The Chamber highlighted that key sectors like tourism and horticulture, already facing severe challenges, would be further crippled by the increased tariff burden.
