Lander compares RSS event at Madison Square Garden to 1939 Nazi rally
New York : Democratic congressional nominee and former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander has said Madison Square Garden should not be used for an event by India’s Hindutva extremist organization RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, calling the organisation “known for fomenting violence against Sikhs, Muslims, Christians.”
According to Kashmir Media Service, Lander made the remarks at a press conference held Tuesday at New York City Hall, organised by the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) to protest Bhagwat’s scheduled programme at Madison Square Garden on August 29.
Speaking at the press conference, Lander said, “I’m here as a proud Jewish New Yorker to say that Madison Square Garden should not allow the ‘spewing of hate’ from Bhagwat.
“Drawing a historical parallel, Lander cited the Nazi rally held at Madison Square Garden in 1939, when tens of thousands gathered at the venue. He said the event involved people “cheering religious hatred and violence of a very similar sort to what Mohan Bhagwat and the RSS are proposing.”
“MSG said it would not host hate-filled, bigoted rallies again,” Lander said. “It should not host this one.”
