IIOJK MBBS interns threaten indefinite strike over discriminatory treatment
Srinagar: MBBS interns across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have threatened to go on an indefinite strike over discriminatory treatment, demanding a substantial increase.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the interns said the current remuneration of meager Rs 12,300 does not reflect their long hours, emergency duties, night shifts and critical patient care responsibilities. They said they form an integral part of the healthcare delivery system, but their contributions remain undervalued by the existing stipend structure, especially given the high cost of living.
The interns’ association has urged authorities to revise the stipend to a level commensurate with their workload and responsibilities, warning that failure to address their grievances promptly could lead to major disruption in healthcare services across the territory.
