6th-grade girl sexually assaulted in Delhi

New Delhi: In yet another incident highlighting risks faced by women and children in India, a sixth-grade student was sexually assaulted inside a shop in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar area.

The girl had gone out to purchase stationery when she was lured into a shop, restrained with her hands and legs tied, and sexually assaulted.

The incident came to light after police received a PCR call on the night of September 16. Based on the victim’s complaint, a case was registered at the Women Police Station of North District under relevant sections including rape, wrongful confinement and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police said the accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Further investigation is underway.

The assault comes days after the gang rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area, whose decomposed body was found on September 13.
