‘You are terrorists, go to Pakistan’: Teacher tells nine Muslim students in MP

Bhopal: A guest teacher in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Indian state of Madhya Pradesh has used abusive and Islamophobic language against nine Muslim students, asking them individually for their names before telling them, “You are terrorists, go to Pakistan.”

The families of nine Muslim students have accused a guest teacher at a government school in Badnagar, Ujjain district, of making Islamophobic remarks in the classroom. The incident has prompted the families to demand her removal and disciplinary action against her.

The teacher, Priyanka Upadhyay, who teaches at Sandipani Vidyalaya, reportedly made the remarks while teaching a Class 9 class on October 7. She allegedly asked nine Muslim students their names individually before telling them, “You are terrorists, go to Pakistan.”

The students reportedly informed their families about the incident. Their families said the remarks had hurt the children’s religious sentiments and raised concerns about their safety and the potential impact on communal harmony in the town.

The parents of the Muslim students submitted a memorandum to the sub-divisional magistrate, who ordered an inquiry into the alleged remarks. They demanded the teacher’s immediate removal and strict disciplinary action against her. The parents argued that such comments in an educational institution could cause emotional harm to children and undermine social harmony. They also called for effective measures to ensure the students’ safety.
