More posters demanding Kashmiris’ right to self-determination surface in IIOJK

Srinagar: More posters surfaced in Srinagar and other areas of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir calling upon the United Nations to take steps to settle the Kashmir dispute as per its resolution passed on 5 January 1949.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the posters displayed by pro-freedom organizations said that India was continuously denying the Kashmiris the right to self-determination recognized by the UN Security Council through its resolutions.

The posters with pictures of illegally detained Hurriyat leaders, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Aasiya Andrabi, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Mushtaq-ul-Islam and Dr Hameed Fayaz asked the World Body to take notice of Indian state terrorism in occupied Kashmir.

The UN Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) had passed a resolution on January 5, 1949 that states that the question of the accession of Jammu and Kashmir either to India or Pakistan will be decided by the Kashmiri people through the exercise of their right to self-determination in a free and impartial plebiscite to be held under the supervision of the World Body.

The posters said that after snatching all basic rights of Kashmiris, the RSS-inspired Narendra Modi-led Indian government is now confiscating their properties, lands, houses, shops and offices under brutal laws. They maintained that the Modi regime is violating international laws to impose the Hindutva agenda of RSS in the UN recognized disputed territory. The right to self-determination was a vital component of human dignity and the negation of this right is the negation of human freedom, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and human rights covenants, they read.

The posters deplored that India is treating the Kashmiris as slaves having no fundamental rights. They said the United Nations and the world community cannot shy away from their responsibility towards the Kashmiri people. The people of Kashmir remind the UN of its obligation to implement its relevant resolutions to settle the Kashmir dispute to save the oppressed people facing the atrocities of brutal Indian forces, they added.

The posters were also shared on social media platforms, including facebook and “X”.
