NIA’s plea for death penalty for Yasin Malik–Delhi court defers hearing
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court, today, deferred the hearing on the National Investigation Agency’s plea for the death sentence for Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik.
According to Kashmir Media Service, previously sentenced to life imprisonment, Yasin Malik, faces allegations of involvement in what legal experts term as fake cases. Some observers even fear that the Modi government aims to execute the Kashmiri leader for political gains in the upcoming elections in India later this year.
It is believed that on the direction of the Modi government, the NIA insists that Yasin Malik’s case falls under Section 121 of the Indian Penal Code, warranting the death penalty for “waging war against the Indian government”.
The Delhi High Court has rescheduled the hearing to May.
Yasin Malik was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Patiala House Court in May 2022 in concocted charges.
