Two including Indian BSF man killed, arms looted in violence-hit Manipur
Manipur: An Indian Border Security Force soldier and a Village Volunteer were killed in different incidents while a considerable number of arms and ammunition were looted from the 5th Indian Reserve Battalion in Imphal East district in conflict-hit Manipur.
According to Kashmir Media Service, although police did not mention the number of weapons looted from the IRB camp in Chingarel, Imphal East district, Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), a forum of Kuki organisations, on Wednesday said that Meitei community members looted nearly 200 weapons and 20,000 ammunition.
The group also said that a village volunteer belonging to the Kuki community, was killed by the Meitei community members in Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi district and a BSF man was killed in firing during another attempt to loot weapons from the MPTC.
The ITLF also said power lines were sabotaged by the Meitei radical group disrupting electricity supply to Saikul sub-division in Kangpokpi. Meitei community members similarly destroyed the lone power line supplying electricity to Lamka (Churachandpur) and Pherzawl districts earlier this month, said a statement issued by ITLF spokesperson, Ginza Vualzong.
The forum further said a mob also tried to loot weapons from the Manipur Police Training Centre (MPTC), but they were repelled by central security forces, in which a BSF man died and four Meiteis were injured.
Manipur police, however, have not confirmed the claims of arms loot. In a social media post, Manipur police said that a JCO of Indian army was injured during a gunfight in Imphal East district.
