Indian mercenaries killed fighting for Russia in Ukraine conflict
New Delhi: At least two Indians have been killed fighting for Russia in the war in Ukraine, shedding light on the alarming trend of Indian citizens being utilized as mercenaries by Russia and Israel in their respective military endeavors against Ukraine and Palestinians.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the use of mercenaries is a serious concern as they are not subject to the same laws and regulations as regular soldiers, and they are often not held accountable for their actions.
The Indian two men, identified as Sai Kumar and Kartik, were part of a group of Indian mercenaries who had been recruited by a private military company to fight on the side of the Russian army. The men were killed in fighting in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
The development has been confirmed by the families of the deceased in India.
There have been also reports of Indian mercenaries fighting for Israel in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria.
The employment of mercenaries, though prohibited under international law, presents a challenge due to loopholes allowing private military companies to operate. These entities, while ostensibly offering security services, have faced allegations of operating beyond legal boundaries and perpetrating human rights abuses.
