Islam has laid great emphasis on equal rights of women: Mirwaiz
Srinagar: Senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that Islam has laid great emphasis and clear guidelines on equal rights of women and treating them with respect and dignity.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressing the religious gathering at the revered shrine of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (Dastgeers Sahib) at Khaniyar in Srinagar on the occasion of last day of Ashra-e-Rehmat (10th day of Ramadan), which also coincides with the death anniversary of Hazrat Khadija-tul-Kubra (RA), said it is a matter of serious concern that women are still treated as inferior and shabbily in our society in violation of Islamic teachings.
Paying rich tributes to Hazrat Khadija (R.A) the beloved wife of Prophet of Islam (SAW), Mirwaiz said that she is the best model for women of all generations to emulate – a model of empowerment and resilience.
Mirwaz said it is extremely disheartening that while we claim to profess and practice Islam, we witness instances of domestic violence and the denial of rightful inheritance to women, practices that starkly contradict the essence of Islamic teachings. He said this has to change, the right to inheritance as per Islamic principles should be adhered to by all, and violence against women at home is unacceptable.
Meanwhile, senior APHC leader Agha Syed Hasan Al-Moosvi al-Safvi, in a statement in Srinagar paid tribute to Ummul Momineen Hazrat Khadijatul Kubra on her death anniversary.
He said that the role and services of Hazrat Khadija along with Muhammad (SAW) in the preaching and propagation of Islam is a brilliant chapter in the history of Islam. He said Hazrat Khadija has the honor of being the first person to confirm the declaration of prophethood of the Holy Prophet.
