World must address Kashmiris’ sufferings under Indian occupation

Pakistan loses over 168 troops as world marks UN Peacekeepers Day

Islamabad: Despite Pakistan’s significant contribution to peace efforts globally, the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a UN-recognized disputed territory, continue to endure brutalities at the hands of Indian occupation forces.

According to Kashmir Media Service, this stark reality underscores the ongoing struggle for peace and stability in the region, as Pakistan’s commitment to international peacekeeping stands in contrast to the continued plight of Kashmiris living under oppressive conditions.

As the world observes the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, it’s important to remember that since 1948, over 160 Pakistani UN peacekeepers have been martyred, with the most significant loss occurring on 5 June 1993 in Mogadishu.

Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to UN peacekeeping is evident through its participation in 60 missions across 28 countries, with more than 200,000 Pakistani soldiers involved. As one of the longest-serving and largest contributors to UN peacekeeping, Pakistan currently has over 7,000 personnel deployed in nine countries as part of 14 ongoing UN missions. Notably, Pakistani women have achieved the UN goal of comprising 15% of female staff officers in these missions, with nearly 450 Pakistani women serving across the globe.

The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has recognized and appreciated the contribution of Pakistani women in peacekeeping, honoring six Pakistani peacekeepers with the ‘Dag Hammarskjold Medal’ last year.

As Pakistan deeply values the crucial role played by the “blue helmets” in maintaining security and stability in conflict-ridden areas worldwide, it also expects the world community to significantly contribute to addressing the sufferings of the brethren people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
