Hajj 2024: 5 women pilgrims from IIOJK die due to heatstroke in Saudi Arabia
Srinagar: Five women pilgrims from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have succumbed to heatstroke while performing this year’s Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the victims, four from Srinagar and one from Kulgam, were accompanied by their relatives and had been performing their religious duties despite the scorching temperatures, which soared to 48°C.
According to a senior IIOJK Hajj Officer, the extreme heat has taken a toll on the health of several pilgrims. “Unfortunately, five lady pilgrims from Kashmir have succumbed to heat stroke in Arafat and Muzdalifa,” the official confirmed.
The deceased pilgrims will be buried in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This year, according to Indian officials, over 7,000 pilgrims from occupied Jammu and Kashmir undertook the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and Madina.
