BJP labels demand for Malabar as separate Muslim state as ‘treason’ and ‘separatism’
New Delhi: Sunni Yuvajana Sangam (SYS) leader Mustafa Mundupara, a Muslim leader from Kerala, has demanded the creation of a state for the Muslim-majority region in India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking at a protest regarding the lack of class 11 seats in the Malabar region, Mundupara highlighted the disparity between Southern Kerala and Malabar.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has responded critically to the statement made by Mustafa Mandupara.
Mandupara made the comment during a protest rally in Malappuram, where he argued that the people of the region pay the same taxes as others in India and deserve equal facilities and powers.
Mandupara, who leads the Sunni Yuvajana Sangam, a Kerala-based organization, stated that the demand for a separate state is not unconstitutional or unreasonable, given the limited educational resources in Malabar.
However, the BJP has labeled Mandupara’s demand as “treason” and “separatism.
” Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Opposition Leader V.P. Sathisan have also weighed in, criticizing Mandupara’s statement. The BJP has questioned how Mandupara dared to make such a demand. The controversy highlights ongoing debates around regional autonomy and resource allocation in India.
