Thousands of people deprived of phone, internet services for last five months in IIOJK
Srinagar, : Thousands of people in many areas of Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, have been deprived of mobile phone and internet service for the past five months.
According to Kashmir Media Service, due to the shutdown of phone and internet services, the life of students, government employees and business professionals has become miserable.
The Indian administration installed jammers five months ago to block any phone and internet signal around the Central Jail, Srinagar, after which several villages of Rainawari were cut off from the rest of the world. No telecom company’s network is working in the entire area.
Residents of the Rainawari area say that apart from central jail and nearby areas, dozens of neighborhoods and settlements are facing serious problems. Local people said that for the last five months, they have neither talked to their relatives inside the Kashmir valley, nor their children or relatives, studying outside the territory.
Bilal Ahmed, a resident, said that five months ago, mobile and internet services were suddenly stopped. He said the jail administration says that the local people should first write that if any untoward incident happens in the jail, they will be responsible for it, in the case the jammers will be removed.
People say that currently more than 60,000 people of Srinagar city are deprived of mobile and internet service, which is completely unfair. People said they would be forced to protest if both services were not restored immediately.
