India upholds ban on IIOJK organizations under draconian law
New Delhi: India’s judicial tribunals have upheld the ban on Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir and Masarrat Aalam Butt-led Muslim League under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According ot Kashmir Media Service, India considers these organizations are “pro-freedom”, which champion the Kashmiri people’s struggle for freedom and UN-acknowledged right to self-determination.
The tribunals was headed by Justice Sachin Datta of the Delhi High Court.
The ban on these organizations has raised concerns among Kashmiri civilians, who fear further erosion of their political space and freedom of expression. The Indian government’s actions have been criticized by many as an attempt to silence dissenting voices and perpetuate a culture of suppression in the region.
