Kashmir Declaration campaign launched in UK as elections take place
London: The Kashmir Declaration campaign was launched in the UK, reminding the British of their historical responsibility regarding the Kashmir issue.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Kashmir Declaration campaign was launched by Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK.
Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK in a statement stated that more than 150 parliamentary candidates across the UK have signed the declaration. In this document, British election candidates acknowledge that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and that the demand for a plebiscite by Kashmiris should be fulfilled according to UN resolutions.
The statement said that the successful candidates have pledged to raise the issue of Kashmir both inside and outside Parliament and urge the British government to address the Kashmir issue with India.
The Kashmir Declaration campaign has emerged amid intense debate over Kashmir and the war in Gaza during the British election campaign.
Some of the important candidates who have signed the Kashmir Declaration include Jess Phillips (Labour) from Yardley; Liam Byrne (Labour) from Hodge Hill; Ayoub Khan (Independent) from Perry Barr; AkhmedYaqoob (Independent) from Ladywood; Babar Raja and Muhammad Hafeez (Independents) from Hall Green & Moseley; Nicola Payne (Green Party) from Edgbaston; WajidBurkey (Workers Party of Britain) from Sutton Coldfield; and KamelHawwash (Independent) from Selly Oak.
