Owaisi slams Modi regime for making IIOJK lt governor more powerful

New Delhi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has vehemently criticized the recent amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, delegating more powers to Lt Governor to overshadow the ‘elected government’.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Owaisi argued that the changes will render the elected government ineffective, with the LG assuming the role of a “Super CM.” He expressed concerns that the amendments will allow the LG to control postings, security, and other crucial matters, reducing the elected government to a “lame duck” administration.

Owaisi’s remarks come after President Droupadi Murmu approved the amendments, which were published in the Official Gazette on July 12

The amendments have sparked debate on the balance of power in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with Owaisi likening the situation to that of Puducherry, where the LG holds significant authority. The changes precede the anticipated assembly elections in the occupied territory, fueling speculation about the implications for the region’s political landscape.
