Opposition exposes BJP’s voter list mnipulation in UP
Large scale deletion of Muslim, Yadav voters spark firestork
New Delhi: Reports of large-scale deletion of Muslim and Yadav voters from the electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh, have sparked a political firestorm, with opposition leaders holding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responsible for orchestrating the omissions to secure electoral gains.
According to Kashmir Media Service, over 32,000 names were removed from the voter list in the Farrukhabad constituency alone, where the BJP candidate won the last Lok Sabha election by a margin of 27,000 votes. The report highlighted that the highest deletion rates occurred in Aliganj, an assembly segment with a significant Muslim and Yadav population, constituting 30% of the electorate.
The investigation also revealed that many voters were falsely declared deceased. Noorjahan, a 69-year-old resident of Ram Prasad village, and Radheshree, 61, were among those removed despite being alive. The deletions allegedly followed letters from a BJP MLA urging Election Commission officials to strike off these names.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav demanded immediate action, calling the deletions a “conspiracy and a crime” by the BJP to disenfranchise opposition supporters. “The BJP MP from Farrukhabad won not with votes but with administrative manipulation,” Yadav said, urging a re-election in the constituency and the reinstatement of deleted voters.
“This dirty game of erasing opposition supporters’ votes is happening across the country, not just in one constituency. This is a blatant violation of democratic principles,” he added.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal echoed Yadav’s sentiments, labeling the act as a “murder of democracy.” He accused the BJP of systematically targeting opposition voters nationwide and called for stringent measures to safeguard electoral integrity.
The opposition has demanded the suspension of officials involved and strict scrutiny of voter rolls to prevent further disenfranchisement. The BJP has yet to respond to the allegations.
The “Yadavs” mentioned in the news story refer to a prominent social group and they are a dominant caste, primarily associated with the OBC (Other Backward Classes) category, and they are traditionally known for their role as herders and farmers.
