Digvijaya slams Modi for spreading hatred between Hindus & minorities

New Delhi: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh came down hard on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for spreading hatred between Hindus and minorities in India for political advantage.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Singh’s remarks came in reaction to Modi’s address to the Indian diaspora during his two-day visit to Kuwait, the first by an Indian prime minister in 43 years.

In a post on X, Singh criticized Modi for preaching “world brotherhood” abroad while fostering division at home with his Hindutva rhetoric. “It is easy to release the genie of hatred, but it’s challenging to rein it back in,” Singh wrote, emphasizing the dangers of spreading communal discord.

Singh, who has been a vocal critic of Modi since the 2002 Gujarat riots, further stated, “While you advocate for world brotherhood abroad, at home, your words stoke division.” He accused the Prime Minister of neglecting his “raj dharma” (duty of governance) and fueling hatred among India’s youth, undermining national unity for political gain.

Digvijaya Singh also questioned Modi’s inconsistent messaging, highlighting the contradiction between his foreign speeches advocating unity and his domestic advocacy of Hindutva, which, according to him, has no connection to the true values of Hinduism. “Savarkar himself has said that Hindutva has nothing to do with Hinduism or Sanatan Dharma,” he added.

The Congress leader concluded by urging Modi to promote peace and unity within India. “I have only one request for you. Spread the message of ‘Leave hatred, unite India’ of Rahul Gandhi and the message of ‘Vasudev Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) of Sanatan Dharma,” Singh said.
