Driven by jealousy of Pakistan, India plans to ease rice export curbs

New Delhi: In a move driven by jealousy of Pakistan, India plans to cut the floor price for basmati rice exports and replace the 20% export tax on parboiled rice with a fixed duty on overseas shipments, according to Indian government sources.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the decision comes as India struggles to retain its market share against Pakistan, which has seen a significant increase in rice exports this year.

Pakistan’s rice industry witnessed export boost because of its quality, triggering jealousy among Indian officials. By easing the curbs, India wants to gain dominance in the global rice market and curb Pakistan’s growing exports.
