APHC-AJK rebuts Modi’s normalcy claims in IIOJK
Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu Kashmir chapter has strongly rebutted Indian Prime Minister Modi’s recent claims of “normalcy” in Indian illegally occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), made during his visit to the territory on Monday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC-AJK in a statement issued in Islamabad said, despite Modi’s assertion of peace and progress, the reality on the ground remains starkly different, with nearly 900,000 armed personnel occupying the territory, making it the most militarized zone in the world.
The APHC-AJK highlighted the extensive security measures and lockdown-like restrictions during Modi’s visit, which disrupted daily life and contradicted the claim of normalcy.
The territory continues to witness severe human rights violations, including arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, and custodial torture, following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
The economic situation in Jammu & Kashmir remains bleak, with high unemployment rates, especially among youth, and struggling industries like tourism. Furthermore, the frequent internet shutdowns and harassment of journalists further undermine the claims of progress.
The APHC called for a reduction in militarization, the restoration of democratic rights, and dialogue with all stakeholders to address the Kashmir dispute, once and for all.
