Absence of fire safety measures worsens devastating Uri market blaze

Srinagar: Amid the absence of any fire safety mechanism, losses from fire-related incidents have increased manifold, with the latest one sweeping through the Boniyar market in Uri, occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reducing at least 10 shops to ashes.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the inferno brought the market to a standstill on Monday night. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with locals rushing to contain the blaze.

The destruction has left shop owners in a state of distress, with many demanding improved emergency services in the area. “We need a dedicated fire station here to prevent such disasters in the future,” said a local resident.

The incident has raised concerns about the lack of adequate fire safety measures in the territory.
