Name display issue forces Hotel owner to fires Muslim staff in UP
Muzaffarnagar: A hotel owner on the Delhi-Dehradun Highway has dismissed four Muslim employees, following instructions from the Uttar Pradesh police.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the move comes after a government directive requiring businesses along the Kanwar Yatra route to display owners’ names.
Lokesh Bharti, owner of Sakshi Hotel, claimed he was told by police to remove Muslim workers, sparking outrage and accusations of discrimination. Opposition leaders, including Congress, AIMIM, and Samajwadi Party, have condemned the move, calling it an “attack on India’s culture” and “economic discrimination” against Muslims.
The Supreme Court has temporarily stayed the Muzaffarnagar Police’s directive on displaying nameplates, amid criticism from human rights organizations and the community. The situation remains tense, with many awaiting further developments and responses from authorities.
