Mirwaiz stresses moral development of youth, unity among Muslims
Srinagar: Senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that the most pressing issue today is the moral and character development of the youth and the new generation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressing the Friday congregation at the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar also stressed the necessity of unified efforts to address and reform the various social issues facing the Kashmiri society.
Mirwaiz Umar called for following the fundamental teachings and ethics of Islam, which is a religion of humanity. He said among the followers of Islam, there is no disagreement on 99 percent of issues and matters, while some issues and matters have partial and secondary differences which are of a scholarly nature.
Mirwaiz further said the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama will continue to play its role with full strength as an advocate of unity among Muslims. “It is our decision that all council members will focus on efforts to unite the Kashmiri community based on the principle of unity rather than getting entangled in secondary and unnecessary issues. We will ensure that the schemes of disruptive and divisive elements are thwarted at all costs,” he said.
He urged scholars, clerics and preachers to avoid making statements, speeches and addresses on secondary and unimportant issues that could create discord and division among the public, thus impacting the broader unity of the Muslim community.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that in the recent meeting of the MMU, it was decided that scholars and clerics from all sects will focus their Friday sermons on the central theme of unity and will encourage the public to promote unity and solidarity based on the principle of unity of the community.
He expressed satisfaction that, as per this decision, scholars and leaders of religious organisations have expressed their views on unity in various masaajid, Imambargahs, Khanqahs, and shrines, which will further strengthen communal harmony and unity among Muslims in Kashmir and thwart the designs of disruptive elements.
