Holding elections in Hurriyat after every two years routine exercise: Saghar
Islamabad: Former convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter Mehmood Ahmed Saghar has said that it has been a routine exercise for the past several decades that elections for the slots of the conglomerate’s convener, secretary and information secretary are formally held as per the Hurriyat manifesto after every two years.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar in a statement issued in Islamabad said that the tradition of electing office-bearers through a democratic process was being pursued by the forum for several years and there was nothing new or unusual in it.
He said that before this year’s election, he was also elected as a convener along with other office bearers of the amalgam.
“After completing a two-year term in office, I myself announced for holding elections afresh to elect new convener of the House”, the former APHC convener said, adding that some of his colleagues insisted him to take part in the election again but he refused.
“The fact is that the election process was held as per the Hurriyat constitution”, Saghar said, adding that it was quite unfortunate that some people were trying to distort facts to suit their own agenda.
He said that there was a dire need to counter this propaganda being spread through social media.
“It is our shared responsibility to inform the people about the facts to avoid”, he said.
