India’s infiltration myth just a ploy to deflect world’s attention from Kashmir’s indigenous struggle

Srinagar: Political experts have dismissed the claim by Indian media that 600 Pakistani SSG Commandos have infiltrated Indian illegally occupied Jammu Kashmir as baseless propaganda, aimed at deflecting attention from India’s own failures in addressing the grievances of the people of the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the experts while responding to the Indian media rhetoric said that New Delhi’s robust fencing along the entire Line of Control, supplemented by advanced surveillance systems, makes it impossible for such a large number of personnel to cross over undetected.

Moreover, the Indian government’s narrative, they added, ignores the historical context of the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination, which is going on since the Partition. The United Nations has recognized Kashmir as a disputed territory, and numerous resolutions have called for the region’s people to exercise their right to self-determination.

India’s attempts to label the Kashmiri freedom movement as “foreign-funded militancy” are a clear attempt to discredit the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people on one hand, and to distract global attention from the debacle of Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party in the recently held elections across India, on the other.

Also, the IIOJK’s youth are driven by a desire for freedom, justice and equality, not by foreign agendas, the experts argued.

They advised the Indian government to acknowledge the indigenous nature of the Kashmir freedom movement and engage in meaningful dialogue to address the long-standing demands of the Kashmiri people. Blame-shifting and propaganda will only exacerbate the situation, while genuine efforts towards understanding and reconciliation can pave the way for a peaceful resolution, they said.
