LFK report exposes Bollywood’s role in misrepresenting Kashmir’s political struggle
Islamabad: A scathing report by the Legal Forum for Kashmir (LFK) has exposed Bollywood’s role in obscuring Kashmir’s political struggles and Muslim identity.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the report, titled “Hindu Nationalism, Islamophobia, and the Obfuscation of Military Occupation in Kashmir,” reveals how Bollywood films have historically aligned with Hindu nationalist narratives, marginalizing the local Muslim population and their political issues.
The report highlights Bollywood’s shift in portraying Kashmir from the 1990s onwards, intensifying negative stereotypes about Muslims and supporting Hindu nationalism. LFK argues that these representations shape public perception, overshadowing legitimate demands for self-determination and human rights violations in the region.
The report calls for more accurate and nuanced portrayals of Kashmir in Indian cinema, reflecting the region’s complexities genuinely. It also urges international attention to the ongoing human rights violations and the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination.
