4.9 Magnitude earthquake hits Baramulla district
Srinagar: Two back-to-back earthquakes were reported in Baramulla district of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning.
According to Kashmir Media Service, initial reports indicate no loss of life or property in the earthquakes. The Center for Seismology recorded the earthquake’s magnitude at 4.9 on the Richter Scale, striking Baramulla district.
The Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported a magnitude 4.9 earthquake hitting Baramulla district on Tuesday at 6:45 am IST. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), it stated, “EQ of M: 4.9, On: 20/08/2024 06:45:57 IST, Lat: 34.17 N, Long: 74.16 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir.”
Following two back-to-back tremors, a young woman died in Odina area of Bandipora district. She was electrocuted by a live wire that fell during the quake. A man was injured after jumping from a building in Baramulla district. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition, according to the police.
