Pulwama residents express concerns over proposed railway line

Srinagar: Residents of Babahara and Mongama areas of Pulwama district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have expressed serious concerns over the proposed railway line being laid out in their villages.

According to Kashmir Media Service, residents of both villages said hundreds of families will lose their land due to the construction of the railway line.

Bashir Ahmed, an elderly resident of Babahara, told a Srinagar-based news agency that he had planted apple trees decades ago and has been taking care of them since then. He said the authorities have now planned a railway line in the area, which will also affect his orchard.

Another resident, Bilal Ahmed, said most of the people of the village depend on their orchards for their livelihood and if this railway line is built, it will take away their livelihood.

He said they do not need such projects that will take away their livelihood and even make people lose their homes.

Manzoor Ahmed, a resident of Mongama, said that the construction of the railway line would affect their lands. He said instead of taking away their livelihood, the authorities should start such projects that are not only harmless to the locals but also provide them with a source of livelihood.

The locals said the administration should take the locals into confidence before starting such harmful projects. He said at a time when people are already facing economic difficulties, it is very worrying to deprive them of their gardens on which their livelihood is dependent.

The residents of Babahara and Mongama, in Pulwama district have strongly objected to the proposed railway line being implemented by the Modi regime, which is set to pass through their areas.

Already grappling with economic difficulties, the villagers warned that losing their orchards, their primary source of income, would exacerbate their hardships.
