Indian authorities demolish house of Muslim politician in MP
Bhopal: Indian authorities in Madhya Pradesh have demolished the home of Haji Shahzad Ali, a senior Muslim politician, following his protest against alleged Islamophobic remarks made by a Hindu religious leader.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident occurred after Pandit Ram Giri Maharaj reportedly made controversial statements about Islam during a recent event. Instead of taking action against the Hindu leader, officials targeted Ali’s residence with bulldozers.
Congress party leader Priyanka Gandhi criticized the action, stating, “Taking away the roof over Muslims’ heads is a severe injustice.” She called the use of bulldozers to demolish homes “completely unacceptable” and demanded an end to such practices.
This event is part of a broader trend of actions against minority communities, particularly Muslims, in India. Over the past two years, reports suggest that more than 150,000 homes have been demolished and 738,000 people have been rendered homeless due to similar actions.
The incident has reignited discussions about the treatment of minorities in India and has drawn criticism from various quarters, including opposition political parties and human rights organizations.
