Indian lawyers express concern over arms exports to Israel

New Delhi: Legal fraternity of India has raised concerns about the country’s arms exports to Israel, citing potential violations of international law and the Indian Constitution.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a Senior Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan has said, “It is clear that Israel is committing genocide in Palestine.” He added that India is clearly facilitating this genocide.

Advocate Chander Uday Singh called for an immediate halt to arms exports from India to Israel. He argued that India is acting against its own domestic laws.

Singh referenced Article 51C of the Indian Constitution, which states, “It is the duty of the state to promote respect for international law and treaty obligations.” This includes the Genocide Convention, which India ratified in 1959.

In June, “Made in India” labeled missile fragments were reportedly found after an Israeli bombing of a school in Gaza.

Legal experts argue that India could be held accountable for facilitating genocide, first in Kashmir and now in Gaza.

They emphasize that India has no need to export weapons of war and that the country cannot absolve itself of responsibility for such large-scale destruction.
