lection Commission favoring BJP in IIOJK assembly elections: PDP & NC
Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party and National Conference have said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) changed the date of vote counting for the occupied Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to Kashmir Media Service, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti in a statement issued in Srinagar stated that the ECI’s decision to postpone the counting of votes from October 4 to October 8 was made at the behest of the BJP. She also criticized the poll body for previously changing the polling date in her constituency during the Lok Sabha elections.
Mufti expressed concern over the transfer of senior police officers during the elections but hoped that the local officers would ensure a free and fair poll process.
Additionally, Mufti spoke out against the amendment to the Wakf properties act, calling it an attempt to dispossess Muslims of their properties. She also condemned the curtailing of the two-hour Namaz break in the Assam Assembly, labeling it a “cheap act” to communalize the situation.
Meanwhile, National Conference leader Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi in his statement sought an explanation from the Election Commission of India (ECI) on the overnight transfers of top police officers in occupied Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the so-called assembly elections.
Ruhullah said that the transfers may be intended to influence the administrative structure in favor of a particular party. He emphasized the need for a level playing field for all political parties.
