Contaminated water plagues Shopian villages
Srinagar: Residents in Shopian district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are facing a severe water crisis due to contaminated water supply.
According to Kashmir Media Service, people in Tangwani, Wathoo, and Daramdora villages of the district are complaining that water pipes are laid directly into a stream, providing unfiltered water that is causing waterborne diseases in the localities.
The water quality is so poor that it is not even suitable for laundry, let alone drinking. To mitigate the issue, some residents have installed water purifiers in their homes. However, the threat of waterborne diseases on a massive scale looms large over the area.
Earlier this year, a jaundice outbreak was also reported in nearby villages, causing widespread panic.
