Citizenship of 28 Muslims revoked, transferred to detention camp in Assam
Guwahati: The citizenship of 28 Muslims has been revoked in Assam in Barpeta district and they were arrested and shifted to a detention camp.
According to Kashmir Media Service, 28 Muslims belonging to the Bengali community, who were earlier declared foreigners, were arrested and sent to detention camps. The detention camp is located about 50kms away from the area.
In a viral video on social media, it can be seen that the families of these Muslims were outside the SP office when they were being taken to the police car.
Local activist Farooq Khan said that each member of 28 families belonging to different areas of the district was called to the police station to sign. Later, they were taken to the SP office and forcibly sent to a detention camp.
It should be noted that on August 22, the Assam Home Department told the state assembly that so far 54,411 people have been declared foreigners by the tribunals.
After the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in India, the citizenship of Muslims is being abolished while the people belonging to other religions are being facilitated to get citizenship.
