Congress condemns Modi govt’s actions in IIOJK, vows to restore rights

Srinagar: The Congress party has sharply criticized the BJP-led Indian government’s actions in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) following the revocation of Article 370, and has pledged to restore the territory’s rights.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to journalists in Srinagar, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera condemned the Modi government’s actions, saying, “[occupied] Kashmir’s rights were stripped, its statehood revoked, and it was reduced to a Union Territory”.

He described the past decade as a period of profound suffering for IIOJK, asserting that “the heart of Jammu and Kashmir has been wounded,” and emphasized that it is time for healing. “The long night has ended and a new dawn is upon us… The Congress will mend these wounds,” Khera declared.

He committed that, if elected, the Congress party would restore IIOJK’s rights including its right to full statehood.
