Masarrat rejects India’s militaristic approach to Kashmir dispute as ‘unrealistic’

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has denounced India’s militaristic approach to the Kashmir dispute as “unrealistic and arrogant,” emphasizing that a military solution cannot replace the UN-granted right to self-determination, which must be exercised through political means.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC leader Masarrat Alam Butt, currently imprisoned in Tihar Jail, in a message called upon world leaders to take proactive measures to address the dire human rights situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Butt warned that continued indifference to the Kashmiri people’s demand for self-determination, which is legitimate and supported by UN Security Council resolutions, will have drastic consequences for the region as well as the world at large.

APHC Chairman condemned India’s use of military force to suppress the political will of the Kashmiri people, citing the ongoing violence, killings, torture, arrests, and humiliation since the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019. He disputed India’s claims of normalcy in IIOJK, highlighting the worsening situation under military and police siege.

The APHC leader urged the UN Secretary-General to take notice of Indian atrocities in IIOJK and facilitate a resolution in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions to avert further loss of life and properties.
