Waqf Bill direct assaust on Muslims, Indian Constitution, says MP Imran

New Delhi: Congress MP Imran Masood from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has condemned the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, calling it a threat to the future of Muslims and an attack on India’s Constitution.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking at a campaign event ahead of upcoming by-elections, Masood raised concerns over the bill, warning it could pave the way for the destruction of properties belonging to madrasas and mosques.

“The implementation of the Waqf Bill is not only a direct attack on Muslims but also on the Constitution,” said Masood, who is also a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). He warned that government control over the Waqf Board could undermine Muslim autonomy over community-owned properties, asking, “When the Waqf Board also comes under the government, what will we be left with?”

Masood highlighted what he described as an atmosphere of intolerance spreading in the country, asserting, “The BJP government has created a strange atmosphere. Today, Muslim properties are being destroyed all over the country.” He cautioned that the bill threatens graveyards and religious institutions alike, predicting that ancient temple properties could also face risks from government-controlled boards.
