Article 370 abrogation institutionalizes double standards: Waheed Para

Srinagar: PDP leader Waheed Para has said that illegal abrogation of Article 370 has institutionalized exclusion and double stands in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Waheed Para in a post on X, highlighted the disparity of Board of Professional Entrance Examinations’ (BOPEE), decision to reserve 13 seats for Hindu minority quota and five for Non Resident Indian (NRI) candidates in postgraduate medical programs at ASCOMS, Jammu.

Para said that the authorities are applying double standards in extending minority safeguards. He pointed out that while specific provisions are made for Hindus in the Jammu region under minority status, similar considerations are denied to Muslims in Kashmir valley, despite their evident challenges in education and employment.

He said, “Muslims are classified as a national minority in India for scholarships but penalized as a local majority in IIOJK for admissions and jobs. The open merit quota here is slashed to just 40%, excluding the majority community from opportunities already denied to them at the national level.”
