Protest erupts in Poonch over acute water shortage
Jammu: Residents of Kalaban village Mendhar Sub Division of Poonch district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir took to the streets, blocking roads to protest the unavailability of drinking water in the area.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest resulted in a complete blockage of Mendhar link road as locals expressed their frustration over the ongoing water shortage. The area has been without water supply for the past six months, causing immense hardships for the residents.
Protestors stated that the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme in the area has been non-functional for a long time, further worsening the situation.
Despite the severe shortage, no official from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has visited the area to address the issue or provide assurances about restoring the water supply.
The residents are calling for urgent action, warning that if the water supply is not restored soon, the situation could escalate.
