Shutdown in Katra Over controversial ropeway project enters seventh day
Jammu: Shutdown in Katra, Reasi district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, against Vaishno Devi ropeway project reached its seventh day on Tuesday, paralyzing life in the town.
According to Kashmir Media Service, shops and transportation remain non-operational, affecting pilgrim footfall to the shrine.
Organized by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti, the protest includes a hunger strike by five youths demanding the release of 18 detained members, including key leaders Bhupinder Singh and Sohan Chand.
Protesters, led by Bhupinder Singh’s wife Shivani Jamwal, vowed to intensify agitation if demands for the detainees’ release and shelving of the ropeway project are not met.
The Samiti said the project undermines the traditional pilgrimage route and the town’s economy, urging the authorities to intervene to resolve the issue.
