Passengers stranded at Jammu Railway Station due to farmers’ protest
Jammu: The ongoing farmers’ protest in Indian Punjab disrupted transportation routes, leaving numerous passengers, including Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims, stranded at Jammu Tawi Railway Station in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a 9-hour strike resulted in the cancellation of three trains—Malwa Express, Swaraj Express, and Vande Bharat Express—while Jhelum Express and Himgiri Express faced delays of two and four hours, respectively.
The protest, organized by farmers demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), also impacted road transport, adding to passengers’ woes. The bandh, backed by leaders like Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a hunger strike, extended to Katra, crippling life in the town as businesses shut down and transport services halted.
Stranded yatris expressed frustration over the disruptions, highlighting the challenges of navigating limited resources in chilly weather. Divisional Transportation Manager Prateek Srivastav assured passengers that most evening and night trains would run on schedule.
