APHC urges UN to invoke Security Council resolutions for Kashmir solution
Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has urged the United Nations to invoke the Security Council resolutions for settlement of the decades-old Kashmir dispute.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas in a statement issued in Srinagar, in connection with the Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day, January 5, which marks the adoption of the UN resolutions in 1949 that called for holding of plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir, said that occupied Jammu and Kashmir continued to remain under military and police siege, especially since 5th August 2019 when India revoked its special status and divided it into two union territories.
He strongly condemned the continued illegal detention of thousands of Kashmiris, including APHC Chairman Massrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Aasiya Andrabi under false cases.
He said that India had no right to perpetuate its illegal hold over a territory that had an international disputed status under the UN resolutions; and the world as well as India and Pakistan had made the commitment to hold a fair and impartial plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.
He called upon the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, to resolve the lingering Kashmir dispute as per UN resolutions.
