Corruption scandal engulfs over-hyped Srinagar Smart City Project in IIOJK
Srinagar: A massive corruption scandal has engulfed the much-hyped Srinagar Smart City Project in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, senior officials of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) are under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for amassing illicit wealth and abusing their positions of power. The ACB has registered cases against two high-ranking officials and conducted raids at multiple locations, unearthing substantial financial irregularities.
The investigation comes amid mounting complaints about delayed, substandard infrastructure work under the Smart City initiative. The ACB revealed that SSCL officials have been living extravagantly, with assets far exceeding their legitimate incomes, further fueling public outrage.
The corruption scandal casts a shadow over the much-publicized Srinagar Smart City Project, which has already received criticism for delays, cost overruns, and inconsistent execution. The project, launched under the Government of India’s Smart Cities Mission, has been plagued by complaints about poor-quality work, missed deadlines, and a lack of transparency, raising serious questions about transparency.
